cards (and banners) - part 2

Next on my list of cards to make was a wedding card. Since I already had kraft paper, my butterfly punch, and doilies out, I went with that. It's almost a reverse of the birthday card I made, but with different patterned paper. I also had a cut apart sheet with the little sentiment, so I made that into a little banner. Added some pink ribbon, and called it done.

Two of the gals I taught with are getting married in August, so as a staff, we had a combined bridal shower for them on the last day of school. I volunteered to make banners. I tried to make it simple and used kraft cardstock. I cut one 8.5 X 11 inch piece of paper into fourths to get started.

Soon-to-be Mrs. Edwards is getting married at a winery and her colors are teal and navy blue. I used the doilies and a heart die cut and some sheer ribbon to tie it together.

Future Mrs. Pamiroyan is getting married in Hawaii and I just so happened to have some silk Hawaiian flowers in my stash from a past project. Her colors are fuschia and bright blue. I used my scallop punch across the bottom of hers and strung it on twine.

If I would've been smart, I would've designed a couple of extra cards or used the back of the words to say Mr. &, that way they could've rearranged it and used it at their reception or something. Hind sight is always 20/20.

I love kraft paper. There are so many different ways to use it.

cards, part 1

June's a busy month around here. Birthdays, graduations, a wedding this weekend. I made a list of people I need to make cards for this afternoon and it's quite lengthy. Here are a couple I whipped up tonight.

Phil's niece graduated yesterday from Central Washington University. We weren't able to make it to her reception, but we'll see her this weekend at her brother's wedding. I've been wanting to try out this style of spiral card that I keep seeing on pinterest. I had a 6x6 inch paper pad of metallic graduation prints and some coordinating sticker sheets. I think it turned out ok, but next time I want to try to make the pieces more equally sized. I guess I varied the width a bit too much.

Saturday evening we are going to a birthday dinner for Phil's aunt.I used the same paper pad that I used for the three Mother's Day cards I made (and didn't photograph). I went with my trusty butterfly punch on this one. I still need to add the sentiment, but I basically consider these as done and I'm crossing two cards off my list.

valentine's banner



Last night I pinned a bunch of Valentine's Day stuff. Today I thought I should quit pinning and actually make something I've pinned. I wanted a banner for my cut out wall between the living room and dining room. This quick and easy heart banner was the winner. It uses one inch wide strips of paper, a stapler, and some twine. 





I had some cute Valentine's day paper (My Mind's Eye) stashed away from a previous project. The tutorial I followed used 12", 10", and 8", but I thought that was a little too big, so I cut mine 10", 8", and 6" with a 3" tab for the center. I just tried to vary the papers as I was making them so no two were the same.

Line up the strips and staple at the bottom. Then roll in toward the center and stick the 3" strip in for the hanger and staple again. Punch a hole in the hanger and string the twine through. 

I like that this banner doesn't have a front and back. It can be enjoyed from both rooms. Cute and easy. My kind of project.

Since my dining room table has been covered with scrapbook stuff for like a month, and it had been a while since I made a card, I dug through my stuff the other day and made a few. 

The first was a pinterest inspiration. I didn't have the stamp they used, because I'm not a stamper, but I did have this die cut on one of my cricut cartridges that I thought would work. I actually painted the blue background with water colors. I used water color paper which has a neat texture to it and tried to go for something in the ombre effect. I made several of these, some in pink. I didn't have a sympathy stamp and, at the time, didn't think I had a sympathy sentiment to cut out, (but later found one) so I hand wrote on the front.

Next up, a birthday card that made my eyes go crazy. I sort of got my inspiration from this card I saw on pinterest. So much going on in those paper patterns. Combine that with the bright pink and I was seeing spots. But it turned out super cute. You can't see it, but I cutsied up the inside and used that same diecut that's on the first card. The card base was black, so I added more pink on the inside so I could write on it.

A thank you note on kraft cardstock with the pink water color paper. I used black chalk ink which I don't really like, but it was all I had. It kind of came out gray and not very clear. I need something darker that makes more of a statement. Any recommendations?

 And finally, a couple of cute mini cards made entirely of scraps. They;re about 3 in. X 3 in.

And now I should probably get that table cleaned up.

a simple wedding album

I threw together a little wedding album for my friend Katie who got married last night. It was relatively easy and took like maybe an hour and a half to do once I got going. 

I began with these two basics: an 8X8 We R Memory Keepers album (Albums Made Easy, available at Target) and an Echo Park wedding kit that came with patterned papers, stickers, and cardstock cutouts (got that at Craft Warehouse). Oh, and I also had some Bazzill card stock leftover from the stuff I made for her shower. I had my punches out, my cricut ready to go, and I pulled out some pretty pearls, but ended up not using any extra stuff. That's why it was done so fast.

This album comes with the divided page protectors, and you can buy additional refills that are the same or are regular 8X8 size. The pocket sizes in this one are 2X4 and 4X6. I trimmed enough paper to fit all the small pockets and made one 4X6 card for each layout. There is nothing fancy here at all, I let the pretty papers do their thing. The kit was great. The picture shows the front/back of the three papers and you get two of each. I had lots leftover. I wish it would've had a little more specific wedding phrases like 'the kiss,' or 'cutting the cake,' or things like that, but there was plenty to work with.

project life . . .

Back today with more of my project life pages. These document the first part of our summer trip to Ohio. I used the 'My Family' paper collection from Fancy Pants that I bought in the clearance bin at Craft Warehouse a long time ago. It had the journaling cards and cutouts. I added a few travel stickers, labels, and whatnot from my stash.

continuing on with project life

Despite the fact that there are lots of ladies out there in the world wide web who've got it all together and are already posting pictures of their 2013 albums, I'm pressing forward with getting this thing done. Baby steps. And I need to remember to take more pictures. January is half over. Yikes.

Here are my pages from June and part of July. I have lots of July pics since we were on vacation in Ohio and those pages are almost done.

June is the 'annivirthday' month. Our anniversary is on the 12th and my birthday is on the 13th. 

The note on the card from our pastor cracked me up so I had to include it - "Another year in paradise!"

My birthday page - it's all about mini cupcakes, Sheri's Berries, yoga mat flip flops, and making strawberry jam for the first time ever.

Those two days were pretty much all that I recorded for June.

Moving on to July. . . we hosted a 4th of July BBQ at our home and had a great time. Later we watched the whole city of Vancouver blow up thousands of dollars in fireworks from the comfort of our own back yard. Pretty much any direction you turned you could see something with lots of action coming from Camas.

 

I used shimmery blue paper for the title.

 

I asked Phil to tell me what came to mind when he thought about fireworks on the 4th in Vancouver and he said, "It's like a war zone." So I used that as my journaling card title. Love it.

The weekend after the 4th we had company, an old college friend I hadn't seen in 20 years and his family came and camped out in our back yard. So much fun catching up with him. Coffee date with a friend, roses from our yard, and of course, I also had to include Mary Lou. My hero.

I have lots of pictures in slots and I just need to finish up some titles and journaling. So expect to see more of this stuff soon. Can I just say, I love this album!!!
