life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

We've been reading a lot about the Presidents lately. Today it was Thomas Jefferson. Our story ended with information about him signing the Declaration of Independence, how he wanted equality for all, and that we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When I asked them if they knew what the pursuit of happiness was, they all gave me funny looks. I said, "Well, you just watched the Schoolhouse Rock video Fireworks the other day on the Declaration of Independence and it showed a man chasing a woman around because he wanted to be with her. She makes him happy. Well, we all have the right to pursue the things that make us happy. I like scrapbooking. It makes me happy." (They all know that because I use scrapbooking for every cotton pickin' example I possibly can in a school year.)

Then one of my boys raises his hand and says, "Ya, it's like on this hunting video my dad has. The boy deer is chasing the girl deer around the woods, and then he keeps jumping up on her from behind. It kind of reminds me of that."

And that, dear readers, is when life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness manifested itself as deer sex. I'm pretty sure that's not quite what our founding fathers had in mind.

HHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I LOVE THOSE MOMENTS in class! Oh, you just can't get that working in an office at a computer.

You have brought back childhood memories with the School House Rock. :)

Wish I could have been there to see the look on your face. Being a hunting family I had to read your blog to everyone in the house. Lots of laughs.
