day 7 of 30

My dad yelled at me today about my lack of blogging. Maybe yelled is the wrong word. Perhaps it was more like, "You said you were going to blog for 30 days and you get to day six and stop. Blah, blah, blah." Forgive me, Dad, for falling behind. But then again, I never said I'd finish the 30 day challenge in 30 days. All I said was is that I'd do the 30 day challenge.

Day 7 - Describe your dream wedding.

You know, there's not much that I'd change about the wedding I already had. I had pretty much everything I wanted. Well, with the exception of the bridesmaids' dresses I picked out and the pictures I paid for. I also would've picked a day without a torrential downpour, but here's the recap:

I picked out dresses that were similar in cut/style to my dress. I only had three bridesmaids, thank goodness, or it really would've been disastrous. I had all three ordered and deposits made by the beginning of February. Our wedding was June 12. I was assured that this would be plenty of time to get them in and altered. Well, seventeen days before our wedding (that would be May 27th) I found out after multiple times of asking "where in the heck are my dresses?" that they had been discontinued. As in, no longer available. As in, oh, we're so sorry about that, but it's out of our control.

Oh yes. Mmmm hmmmmm, You feel my pain, don't ya?

My theory is that Elaine, or Ilene, as Phil505 likes to call her, from the now defunct and no longer open for business I wonder why? Bride and Party of Ashland, never even ordered my dresses because she was too busy helping high school girls find the perfect prom dress, and my three little bridesmaid wedding party didn't really matter all that much to her. So then, at the very last minute, when she tries to get them rushed on in, they are no longer being made.

Oh, she tried. She had something flown on in all right. And they were the most ugly shiny satin dresses you've ever seen. Like 1980's satin and not even close to what I wanted. I think she just sat down with a bolt of nasty fabric and whipped them up herself before I got there that day. I almost cried right then and there. And looking back, I should have. I also should've taken a picture of said ugly dresses, but I didn't know then that I'd be blogging about the ridiculousness of them now. Ehhh. Hindsight is 20/20.

Fortunately, my three maids pulled it together and ended up getting matching dresses in the same color I wanted on the Wednesday before the wedding. I wasn't allowed to be there. Anyways, I was stuck in Columbus with the hub-to-be waiting on a groomsman who happened to be stranded in Houston.

None of them wanted spaghetti straps, but that's what they got because there were no other options. Alterations were still being made on one Friday afternoon. As in the day of the rehearsal and I'm getting married tomorrow.
Sidenote: I loved my twisty hair do, even though you really couldn't see it with my veil.

Another sidenote: My dear friend Jill did my hair. She's also my Grandma's neighbor and has a donkey named Monty who has starred in more Christmas programs and live nativities than you can count. :)

Well, because of our "problem" we got the ring bearer tux for for free and that was only because my tall, dark, and handsome groom-to-be went in to have a little chat with Elaine. It wasn't pretty, but at least it proved to my mother that even though I was about to move 2,000 miles away, I was always going to have a superhero on my side. (Oh yes, Mr. Incredible most certainly lives at my house.)

I think I've mentioned before that our photographer lost all the "Wendy & Phil just got married" pictures, the entire bridal party pictures, the pictures of us with our families. Pretty much everything that was taken after the ceremony before the reception. His hard drive crashed when he was downloading the memory card. ;( We have a few nice pictures, but I still get sad when I think about it, so I'll move on to something that makes me a lot more happy.

My dad danced with me. Oh yes, he did. He said for months and months that he wouldn't, swore up and down that he was not going to, but he did. And I cried and cried and cried. Seriously, even if he yells at me for not blogging, I'll look past it, because this still goes down as one of my all-time favorite memories. Look at me, I'm a blubbering mess.

We had buckets of hydrangeas, roses, and tulle. Beautiful music. Girlfriends from way back lighting candles. Relatives from far away. More cake and chocolates than we knew what to do with. A stupid DJ. And we had sparklers at the dinner reception. Loved that too.

In spite of all that, I'd marry Mr. Incredible all over again. Yes, I most certainly would.

Loved reading this! I was SO SAD to hear about your wedding pictures, though!! Makes me reallly think when I photograph a wedding how I want those pictures backed up ASAP! Glad you would marry Phil505 again. :)

Everytime I hear the story of your wedding I learn something new. I wanted to cry when I first saw my Dad looking so handsome waiting to walk me to the alter.
