an internet romance that's really worked

On this day seven years ago, I (code name Murphy596) sent a message to Phil505 on a whim, but at the prompting and encouragement of my sister, on christianmatchmaker.com. Her exact words, "Just write him, Wendy. What have you got to lose?" So I did. I sent him the world's most cheesy email. Unbelievably, he wrote me back. And then I wrote him back. And then he wrote me back. And then I tracked down his unlisted phone number with my own personal private investigating skills. (I found it online on his church bulletin!) And then I called him when he was at work just so I could hear what his voice sounded like, making sure to block my number from his caller ID. And then my favorite mug broke at school and I got a new one in the mail. And we just continued on from there until about mid-January when he finally called me on the phone. Then we kept calling and calling and calling and writing and writing and writing. When we knew it was time to meet, he arranged to fly out to see me - because no way was I flying out to Oregon first. Although, oddly enough, I picked him up at the airport all by myself. And then I was late getting there because my Uncle Joe kept making me check my phone to make sure I had his number, just in case. And then I got to the top of the escalator. And then I saw him. And then he saw me. And then we kissed. (My very first kiss ever.) And then I couldn't remember where I parked my car. But it didn't matter because I was in love and Phil505 was right there holding my hand.

We like to say it was love before first sight because we really were in love with each other before we actually saw each other. And then, even though it was almost two years after the first email that we got married, we only spent a total of 45 days together - face to face - before we said "I do."

And today, we'd just like to thank Jenny for all her prompting and remember that first cheesy email - because it was the best thing I've ever done.
