five years ago today

Five years ago today my bridesmaids weren't wearing the dresses I picked out. (The owner of the bridal shop conveniently told me 17 days before the wedding that they had been discontinued. Things only got worse with her from there.)

Five years ago today it rained. And rained. And rained. But it stopped in time for the wedding guests to arrive. And when we released the balloons it was just perfect. However, the next day, I believe, there was a tornado and our guests had to go into the hallway of the hotel for extra precaution.

Five years ago today the groomsmen were having a hard time controlling my ring bearer - the ornery little guy up on the stage flipping the pillow around.

Five years ago today we had more cake than we knew what to do with.

Five years ago today we had a flat tire on our car as we left the church. We just didn't know it at the time.

Five years ago today our photographer lost all our after the ceremony pictures when he was downloading to his portable hard drive. We have no good "we just got married" pictures. Yes, it still makes me sad. But thankfully, there are some cute "we're getting ready to get married" pictures.

Five years ago today my flower girl fell asleep just before it was time to walk up the aisle.

Five years ago today I thought my dad wasn't going to dance with me. For months and months, he said he wasn't going to. But he did. And I bawled my eyes out.

Five years ago today my uncle gave me a lime green maternity shirt as part of his elaborate traditional gift giving scheme. We also got a bunch of fruit because we make a great pear, and I'm a peach, and stuff like that. My picture was in the lovely dictionary he gave me under "old maid." I got a box of Stove Top Stuffing (long story) and a record with the song, "Hey! Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?" that our dud of a DJ was playing. He also gave me a banana (because Phil is so appealing) with a $100 bill smashed up inside and a beautiful framed Thomas Kinkade print.
But none of that really matters because five years ago today Phil said, "Yes. Yes, I do. I do." At just the right times and I became his lawfully wedded wife.

Amen.

To my husband. . .

Happy anniversary, babe! Thanks for always being by my side, for being my shoulder to lean on, for always opening the doors for me - and getting mad when I forget and do it myself, for praying for me, for scratching my back in all the itchy places, for reaching all the stuff that's too high for me to get at, for supporting my scrapbooking hobby, for putting your arm around me in church, for being my sounding board and my own personal Dr. Phil, for kissing me goodbye every morning and yelling at the door "I Love You, Baby," for making me laugh, for telling me I'm beautiful every single day.
I love you.
y.s.a.

PS: Now let's get the car packed and be on our merry little way to the beach.

Happy belated Anniversary to you both!! We have been MIA in Disney so I am late in responding. Hope the beach was wonderful. It's amazing how quickly time flies, huh? It is also wonderful to have a great man as your husband like you sound like you have!! :)

Ahhh...the dreaded bridesmaid dresses! But Coby and Jenny got us through it! Thank you Jesus that Jenny didn't deck the owner of the bridal shop! But at least it all worked out! And wasn't it sooooo worth it??!!

LOVE YOU BOTH.
