the house hunting continues

Apparently, a lot of people needing a place to live in the greater Portland/Vancouver metropolitan areas are searching for rental properties. On the exact same websites we are. Here's my reasoning. . .

Remember the townhouse that I loved? Gone. However, they kept it on their website for almost a week after we found out someone applied for it. So for a week, they were totally playing with my mind. Because, in my mind not only did I have my furniture positioned in there, I also had stuff hanging on the walls.
We found a listing last week for a house that was too good to be true. Turns out, it was. It was a Nigerian scam. You know, the ones you hear about on TV where these really poor people wire money to Canada to hit it big. It was something similar. In poorly written grammar, it said, "Wire us $600 and we'll send you the keys and the paperwork." Only, these bad guys were under the pretense of being missionary Shawn Wood with Wycliffe Bible Translators who were currently serving a five year term in Africa. (They didn't know who they were messing with!) We contacted Wycliffe, who had already been informed by some other dear person that their name was being dragged through the mud, and we flagged them on Craig's List.
Then last Thursday afternoon, a great 3 bedroom house is posted for rent on Craig's List. We called that night and scheduled an appointment to see it Saturday afternoon when Phil got off work. But, it was not meant to be. He got a call Friday morning, "Sorry, we've already rented it out. No need for you to come." Gone in less than 24 hours.

Friday afternoon, I see another 3 bedroom house posted on a property management site. We scheduled an appointment to look at it this afternoon. Isn't it cute?

It has a really nice open floor plan. Take a peek inside. . . Here's the living room and part of the dining room.

Which moves on into the kitchen. Ahhh. . .to be able to look outside while washing the dishes, even if it is just a fence. On the opposite wall is a nice big pantry, the laundry room, and a hallway to the bedrooms.

Then looking into the family room and patio. . .

The lady giving us the tour told us that if we were going to apply for it, we'd better do so soon because she heard that someone else was going to be dropping off their application, and she hadn't even shown it to them. Phil and I talked it over and decided to go for it, so we called the office to get directions.

Yep, you guessed it, the receptionist said, "Oh, a man just dropped off the application a few minutes ago. He just beat you to it. And the crazy thing is he hasn't even seen the place."

Unbelievable.

We applied for it anyway, with the hopes that the first guy has bad credit, bad rental history, has been convicted of a crime, or was previously evicted, and so we're second in line and waiting until Wednesday to find out.

I am so ready for this to be done.

Hang in there, girl... I understand the feeling in a different way... ours was when we were building this house. Whatever house/place you are going to end up with will be PERFECT. :)

Hey... in response to your question on my blog... persuasion isn't exactly what I would say I used. lol More like EXPECTED out of them. They didn't have a choice and I made that very clear. I even sat with one who I knew was going to have issues and I ate the same thing as he did at the same time and we talked about the taste, etc. These kids need to learn to try new things. Many times it is because they haven't been MADE to eat and try new things to see if they even like it! That little guy who originally told me he was going to throw up found out that he didn't mind most of the food and actually loved the olives!! ha!!
