Since it hasn't been raining here in several days (so nice, for a change) I've been wanting to go up to Rocky Butte to see the mountains. Rocky Butte is right across the freeway from where my school is located. It's a curvy drive up, but once you're there, you can see for a really long way. So after I got back, I told Phil to meet me out front and I kidnapped him for a bit. We drove up and parked the car across the street from this fortress looking park.
I was standing below Phil here trying to get his picture and it felt like I was going to be blown backward down the steps by all the wind.
At the top of the steps, when you turn around you see Mount St. Helens. So very pretty. The Columbia River is in the foreground (so is Ikea and an airplane taking off) and that's the bridge I take every day to get to and from work.
Zooming in on St. Helens. This is the south side. You can't see the crater and the blast site. It's on the north side. I can see St. Helens for quite a bit of my drove home every night. A view I never get tired of.
Looking east you see Mt. Hood and part of Mt. Jefferson (which is not in this picture).
We were there about as long as it took you to read this blog. By the time we got back to the car, my hands were frozen and my lips were chapped. But it felt refreshing to be out and enjoy the sunshine. We get a few more days before the Pacific air flows bring back the rain.
