one a-maze-ing day

Yesterday was one of the craziest days of the entire school year. It's the day teachers dread most. . . costume day which then continues on into Family Fun Night. Try teaching in a classroom with four Darth Vaders, three princesses, Spiderman, Indiana Jones, and Fern from Charlotte's Web. Darn cute, but lively as all get out. I, being the dedicated teacher that I am, went on with the normal routine of spelling tests and work. But I finally gave in at one point and we did watch a video about firefighters :) We also did a 1st-3rd art project where we divided all three classes into groups and they rotated around to make a scarecrow glyph. That was fun, I must admit.

I came home last night from the carnival where I worked the ticket table and the tatoo booth with teacher #7 and just crashed. I beat Phil to bed, which is a rarity around here.

Phil took today off. Just. To. Spend. With. Me.

After sleeping in, he said if I'd hurry up and get dressed, he'd take me out to breakfast. The only place we can figure out to go for breakfast around here is a place called Sherri's. In Ohio, there's everyone's favorite ~ Bob Evans (sing it with me - "Bob Evans, down on the farm"), or a few Cracker Barrels around to get some hash brown casserole. In Vancouver. . . just Sherri's. There are no Bob Evan's in the west and the closest Cracker Barrel is in Boise, Idaho - six hours away. Sherri's is close to Bob Evans, just not quite as good. But I'll take it. Because eating breakfast together with my husband on a Saturday morning rarely ever happens.

After spending some money at Fred Meyer on a new jacket for me, it was off to Bizi Farms and the pumpkin patch. I had two things in mind: a tall skinny pumpkin with lots of vine left on it and Indian corn. Little did I know that upon arrival we'd see this sign.

Oh, to release the frustrations of one's week by hurling pumpkins into the air. I let Phil be a manly man and he got my two pumpkin shots too. He looked like he was having a grand ol' time.

You could aim for the barrels and get it to land in for a free scarecrow, or you could try to hit the beater car. FUN!!!

For the entire time we've been together, we've talked about going through a corn maze. This year we finally did it. It wasn't anything fancy like the Sacagawea they had out here a couple years back, but we did manage to get lost. Phil, with the help of the little trusty, but confusing map, got us out just fine.

The weather was beautiful. We've had about four or five straight days of sunshine and I was trying to soak it all in today. I know the never-ending rain is on its way soon.

We took a hayride to the pumpkin patch and since it went uphill a bit, we got a neat view of the maze. I wonder how they do that?

The patch was clearly picked over, everybody and their brother was there today, but we managed to find these. Look - lots of vine :)

That was really sweet of your guy to spend the day with you. I know you enjoyed it immensely.

I understand completely about the dress up days. I endured that last week where I dressed up like a cat.

So, does it rain EVERY day in your rainy season? How long does it last?
