10 years

I am going to brag on Phil505 for a minute. Today his company had their annual summer picnic and he was honored for being an employee with them for 10 years. Ten years answering phones and talking to people in crisis situations, people who are facing family difficulties, people needing someone to talk to after a traumatic event is a long time. And he's done it well. I know it's not easy, and not being able to share anything with me due to confidentiality regulations makes it even more difficult. It's a very stressful job that takes a special person. For his ten year gift they let him pick out a coat and had it embroidered with the company logo. His boss presented it to him and had some very nice words to say. I was extremely proud. Way to go, Dr. Phil!

Something else they do at this picnic is a dessert contest. I won 2nd place a few years ago with my buckeyes. Today I tied for the top prize with my oreo-peanut butter pie (basic recipe here, I just use a whole package of oreos crushed up and 1/2 cup melted margarine mixed together and pressed in the bottom of a 9 X 13 pan instead of a pie pan. Then I make 1 1/2 batch of the filling.) Seriously, you can never go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter in a dessert. Scored a $20 gift card to the movies!

It was a beautiful day. We sat by Vancouver Lake and enjoyed the scenery with some of his coworkers while some of the other people went out in canoes and kayaks.
And it totally wasn't planned, but we went all matchy matchy to the picnic. The first person we saw as we walked up to the pavilion mentioned our matching green shirts and then everyone and their brother said something about it. So hysterically funny.

Then we came home and took Wilson to a new place. The dog park is his happy place. The river/lake is his other happy place. Combine those two things and you get his happy happy place. The Sandy River was perfect. Nice long walk to get to the beach - perfect for lots of sniffing + shallow part of the river - not too swift - for retrieving + lots of other dogs to chase + a nice long walk back to the car = one tired puppy dog.

It was a good day for all three of us.

Contgratulations to Phil. I can't imagine the burdens he carries for others. Good thing he has a loving wife to come home to.
