First up: the stars.
I got these little wooden strands of stars at Craft Warehouse one day when they were having a surprise sale. All the wood stuff was 50% off and these were only $1 to begin with. And you can only imagine my surprise when the lady handed me a bag and said, "Everything you can fit in this bag is an additional 20% off!" Since I had my handy-dandy calculator in front of me right now, I can tell you that they ended up being 40 cents a piece. Otherwise I'd have let you do the math because I didn't do percentages off in first and second grade.
OK, so there are four sizes of stars and they are connected with twine. The first thing I did was to paint the edges red, white, and blue. Helpful hint I learned along the way: paint a little bit more than just the edges because chances are, your paper isn't going to be an exact fit. I traced the stars and covered both sides with a set of patriotic double-sided papers by BoBunny. Before I mod podged them on, I inked the edges.
After that I covered the whole side with a coat of mod podge and let it dry. It doesn't take very long.
I ended up getting some paint on the twine and I thought it looked stupid, so I dug out my stash of patriotic looking ribbon and tied little pieces to cover up all my mistakes, and a few more just for fun and because I thought it looked cute.

For lack of a better place to hang them, they are now currently on either side of our entertainment center. And I like them.
