It's been a while since I've done one of these, and in light of my new old job, I thought I'd share a picture that I showed my first graders on the first day of school. Internet, this is me in kindergarten. I wanted to show them a picture of me in first grade, but I don't currently have one. My mom is supposed to be sending it to me. (Just a subtle reminder, Mother dear.)
Is it me, or do I look like I'm being choked in that turtle neck thing? It's a Trendy-Wendy outfit if I've ever seen one. I mean, seriously, check out the detail stitching around that vest! Because I'm detail oriented, you can see it also comes complete with matching red plastic barrette. I'm sure I completed the outfit with my Buster Brown shoes.
I remember kissing a boy that year. I thought he was cute. I chased him around the little play house that took up a corner of our room and got him a good one on the cheek. (Little did I know that eight years later I'd be going back to public school with him. And ya, he remembered the whole kissing incident. Talk about embarrassing.) We had kidney shaped tables, blocks, a library, and a listening center in Mrs. Patton's room. She was old. She knew when I cheated and put my name card at the front because I wanted to be next in line to pick out the read aloud book. (Kids that young don't know about ABC order which is obvious because I apparently didn't know that Wendy would come at the end of the alphabet.) At the end of the year we took a walking field trip to her house. I swear, she was like five houses down the street from the school and I remember whining about how far it was. We had hot dogs.
Alice Spoerr was my bus driver. She made my mom and dad's wedding cake. She makes a carrot cake that is to die for. As soon as it gets to be fall enough, I'm making it. But it's supposed to be back up to 90 next week.

Too cute, Wendy! I am sure your kids loved that picture. I show my growing up years pictures to my kids every year and they laugh hysterically. I could get a complex... if I wasn't laughing right along with them. :)
Derrick looks sooo much like you! And of course...Hannah does too!
