I've always loved sitting out under the big tall "pencil" trees ever since I moved out west. I took this picture at our church campout back in July. It was a rather hot day and there was a slight breeze blowing up in tops of the trees. Phil and I were in our lawn chairs at our site and we kept moving them to try to stay in the shade. I just leaned back in my chair and took this picture. It's strange, I know. But so appropriate for today's post.
We had a little fall kickoff picnic today after church. We don't have Sunday School or junior church during the summer and so today it all got started back up again. (Well, not all of the classes are ready to go quite yet.) And, like most churches, kickoffs for just about anything are always a great reason to have a picnic of the potluck variety.
So after a little junior church meeting (I'm helping lead music a few weeks a month - when I'm not on piano for worship team), we went outside to get our food. It was warm and so we found several seats under some big tall trees of the piney/spruce variety. Pine cones were falling all over the place. Pine needles were poking people. And I came home with a blob of sap in my hair! I didn't even know it was there for a while after I got home. I went to brush out my hair and my brush got stuck. It didn't take long to figure out what it was because I touched it, my fingers smelled like Pine Sol.
Here's what you need to know should this unfortunate event ever happen to you. And I only know thanks to the magic of Google because I wasn't about to let my husband wack off my hair (which he so badly wanted to do). Go get your bottle of olive oil. Rub it into your hair where the sap is. Shampoo it a couple times. Depending on how much sap you have, you might need to redo the olive oil/shampoo steps again. If you're out of olive oil, get the mayo, or the all-natural peanut butter. Perhaps you only have baking soda or Ivory soap. They supposedly all work. I used Bertoli's Light Virgin Olive Oil and I'm happy to report I'm sap free :)
I wish I had more exciting news to share, but this is it for today, folks. I've procrastinated long enough on those lesson plans.
