pike street market

I love, love, love Seattle. I wouldn't want to live there because the traffic is insane, but it's such a cool city. There's so much to see and do and I love the whole waterfront area. As it turns out, Phil's long 4th of July weekend off coincided with my friend Dawn and her husband Dan's Alaskan cruise departure, and there happened to be a Mariners game later that same night! With some of Phil's thrifty shopping on Craig's List, we got a great deal on some awesome seats and a parking pass!!! So instead of celebrating Christmas in July, we did Valentine's Day! (But I'll blog about the game later.)

We left Vancouver early Saturday morning, drove about 3 hours, and met Dawn and Dan at their hotel. They came all the way from Maine, and since I rarely get company, I jumped at the chance to see my friend! I haven't seen her since our wedding. I first met Dawn at TTU when she lived down the hall from me. She's also a '91 WOLBI grad and scrapbooker extraordinaire. She's also a consultant for Close to My Heart stamping/scrapping products, so I can hook you up if you need to order supplies.

We took them to Pike Street Market. Everyone who visits Seattle needs to check that place out. We found a quaint little French restaurant on the back side of the market that overlooked the bay. I've never eaten at a French restaurant before, so I was a little apprehensive, but I had a lemon-herb chicken breast on a buttery melt-in-your-mouth croissant. Oh my word! It was divine!!! Phil was a little more daring and tried mussels (with shrimp and pasta) for the first time. Ick. I'm so not a seafood person.

Just about anything you can think of is sold at this place. It was super crowded with it being a nice warm Saturday and a holiday weekend on top of that.
  • Lots of flower vendors. I didn't get pictures, but there were pretty pink peonies all over the place.

  • Fresh fruit and veggies of every size, shape & color.

  • The BEST cherries you'll ever eat.

  • Seafood galore.

We didn't see any flying fish at the famous fish market :( They only throw it when people actually buy it. And obviously, no one was buying. There were tons of people just standing around waiting to see the fish fly.

Then we walked down about 3 blocks to the very first ever Starbucks.

The line was really long, so we skipped out on getting coffee, but there was this little whimsical quartet playing right outside.

We dropped Dan and Dawn off at their cruise ship and headed to check in at our hotel. More about the game and what we did on Sunday later.

Oh, how fun! Sounds like a wonderful time with your friends. I didn't realize Starbucks began out west! It looks like a really neat place to visit. :)
