nye beach, here we come

We arrived home from Mount St. Helens Tuesday evening, did some laundry, and rented a movie from the Redbox at McDonald's up the street. I love that thing. For the low, low price of only $1.08, we can be entertained with a newly released movie. Even if you don't get it turned back in before the 24 hours is up, it doesn't kill you in late fees. And if you know anything about me and my nasty library fine collection over the years, you'll know that this is an extra special benefit!

Wednesday - after waiting forever on our dryer that must need a new heating element, we headed toward the coast in the afternoon with a stop first at the outlet mall and then to see the Spruce Goose. This is a humungous plane that Howard Hughes thought was going to change the world and how cargo was transported. It didn't stay up in the air very long and now sits in this museum in McMinnville, OR, where you can take a personal tour for $50. That's after you pay the admission fee to the museum. I didn't get any pictures. We were going to tour the museum, but we got there and it was only open for another hour. Guess we'll save that trip for next year.

We stopped in Depot Bay, the whale watching capital of the world. Didn't see any. Bummer.

Then we went a little further south to Newport and checked in to our cottage. It wasn't five-star accomodations, but we had a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, living room, dining area, and a decent bathroom. It was a block's walk to see the beach, but since it was up on a cliff and there was a bit of erosion, we had to drive four blocks to get beach access. We watched the sunset that night. This is Yaquina Head Lighthouse which we went in on Thursday. I'll share better pictures next time.
