I was on spring break last week. So was Phil. Well, all except for Thursday (when I scrapbooked the pages you saw farther down the blog). On Friday we took an overnight trip to the beach. First stop: Depoe Bay, Whale Watching Capital of the World. It's migrating time for gray whales, but I didn't see any this year. The water was WAY too choppy. The weather WAY too stormy. The wind WAY too cold. Phil always says, "It's not cold on the coast. It's just windy." I totally disagree.
Most of the towns along the coast are what I refer to as Trinketville. They're chock full of trinket shops in which you can buy many a variety of Oregon Coast salt & pepper shakers (my Grandmother would love it!), magnets for your fridge, seashells - imported from the Philippines, of course, and t-shirts that say "My Grandma Went to the Oregon Coast and All I Got Was This Stinkin' Shirt." Coastal towns also have quite a few candy shops where you can buy some of the best salt water taffy around. We always go into the trinket shops, not quite sure why, but I saw this fella and I had to get a picture with him for my blog.
Here's Depoe Bay. Now imagine just across the street is the Pacific Ocean.
OK, quit imagining and look at what's across the street.
Isn't it beautiful? I LOVE coming here. I could sit on that sea wall (or in the comforts of my nice, warm car) all day and just watch the water and listen to the roar of the sea. I don't know if you can see it or not, but if you look below the clouds you can see several rainstorms out on the water. Like I mentioned before, the weather was not conducive to spring breakers. The sun would shine for maybe two minutes max, then it would rain, then all of a sudden, the hail would come. I've never seen so much hail in all my life (and I have seen my share of hail back in Ohio). Then the cycle would just keep repeating itself. It did this all afternoon and I woke up several times that night listening to hail banging on the sliding glass window. Just walking down that street on our way to the Chowder Bowl for lunch, it felt like the wind was picking me up and carrying me down the sidewalk. I kept hoping the old guy walking in front of us would hurry up because it seemed like at any moment I was going to be knocked into him.
Here's one last picture. It's of the cute guy that took me to the beach!
~This blog is dedicated to my wonderful friend and lover of trinket shops, Natalie Powers. Come out here, girlfriend, we'll go trinket shopping!!!

I love you girlfriend! I was just giggling at "Trinketville" and lo and behold you dedicated your blog to me! I am so blessed! Sure miss you around these boring parts - life was so much more exciting when we were cruising in my convertible (at midnight nonetheless!) Love you!! Nat-trap
Beautiful pictures, Wendy! Sounds like you had a good Spring Break. We're back in Australia now...got in yesterday morning. As if the waking up at 4:30 am this morning wasn't a clue to my jet lag. Talk to you soon!
