I slept in til 7:40 today. Felt good. And so my classroom's all packed, my house is basically still clean from Mary's visit (although I need to do the dishes), and it's my first day off with nothing really pressing to do, and don't ya know. . .it's raining. Off and on all morning. Not a lot, just enough to make you want to stay indoors. But I had to run to the bank and then to the post office to mail off a copy of my newly received Washington Residency Teacher Certificate to a couple schools I've applied at (which felt super good. . .finally), and decided. . . .what the heck? Why not head on over to Borders and sit and read for a while. {They have really cushy chairs there, by the way.} Grabbed a couple newly released scrapbook magazines and hid from the world for about an hour. Some people are quite crafty. You should see some of the things they come up with. And you all thought I was good.
Then I decided I would go sign up for a Fort Vancouver Regional Library card since I haven't done that yet and I have a lot of time on my hands now. So I got there and there must've been a hundred kids running all over the place. They had just been released from a summer reading thing. It was so maniacical (is that a word?) that I just had to go. Too much noise. I want it to be nice and quiet when I go to the library. I hear noisy kids for nine months out of the year. For three months, I should get a little peace and quiet.
Waiting on the phone to ring. Someone should be calling me in for a job interview. Now that I'm official and all. That would be nice. I've applied for 12 positions in 1st - 5th grade in two districts: Evergreen (where we live) and Battle Ground (just north of us). I have no "ins" in either district. I know a couple teachers and office staff from church, but no real ties to any of the big wigs. No phone calls yet. Hopefully soon. Something will come up.
So that, my friends, is where I am for now. For today. Maybe tomorrow the sun will shine and I'll put on my new black suit and head out the door, portfolio in tow. Until then, I guess I'll go scrapbook.
